We brought home the puppy from the trainer for the holiday weekend and introduced her to the boat. Once the weather finally cooperated with us we took a little ride and thew a couple of bumpers to practice exit and entry points. Wife was able to snap a couple of pics...

Learning "place"

First exit.. nice form

Realizing I need some sort of a ramp for her

All and all was a pretty good outing and she did great for her first trip out. So... any suggestions for a compact yet sturdy ramp?

Thanks again Angie B... what a difference you've made!!

If you use a blind most times you will send your dog from the bow. From the front deck the dog will have an onubstructed view of the decoys and will see many of the ducks fall whether your setup is port or starboard.

Most hunters grab the dog from the top of the collar and pull the dog towrds them as the dog pushes himself up. The ladder works better because you can remain seated and train your dog to launch from it and he does not fill your boat up with 5 gallons of water every time he comes back with a bird. I use this one. There are some cheaper places to get it from and tons if different versions but you get the idea.

Sorry about the use of real ducks for the SRS folks
Just kidding!

You pull the dog twords you by the neck, or I just push down on the top of the neck until the dog gets it's back legs hooked on the side of the boat.

I never had the luxury of a ladder for my dogs. But then my camo doesn't match either.....

Just so everyone knows..... John and his wife Pam spent their first year wedding anniversary last weekend at a hunt test.....

Ya think their hooked?????
