Here is what I know about the situation.

I need help from all dog lovers, vet assistance or anyone who has experience with a dog being diagnosed w/ Osteochondrosis (also known as OCD). my 3 yo lab was just diagnosed with this in his hock (ankle). Orthopedist diagnosed him on Wed, my vets office just called me and said that Dr. XXX is intrigued because in 30 yrs of practicing he has seen 1 case of this. Mind you he thought my had a torn ACL/ CCL and put him on bed rest for almost 2 months. Anybody have any knowledge on this subject?
This is all I know about the situation. The breeder has been notified, but they have not yet responded. I have limited knowledge on the subject myself, i was hoping the wonderful RTF members can help with any advice you may have. The dog in question is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday of next week. Any advice would be helpful.

Dog info 3 years old, "English" lab, he is a pet not a hunting dog. Very sweet pup, this was caught by his owner who wanted a real answer to the pain her dog was feeling and showing.

I figured it had been covered. I sadly can't search from my iPhone. The dang search box jumps around the screen when I try to use it.

Ok I read the threads. I am going to contact the one guy who had the surgery done. If anyone else has experienced this let me know.

Since it seems to be genetic, is there any normal tests that would catch this as being passed onto offspring even if the parents are not showing symptoms?

Jason,
I had a ylf that had ocd when she was 3 in her left rear hock. Had surgery done on it to help elivate the pain. After recovery I put a MHR on her. The limp never really went away. After hard training her hock area would get really hot. I iced it and she was on an aspirin regimet. Didn't really bother her too much unless it was really cold, or she had to sit in the boat for a long period of time. She lived a pretty normal life until the age of 12.
