Someone checked the wrong box when making entries,,,, orrrrr,,, Many times dog are listed with their pro handler, but the owner in fact will run them.

On another note,,,, I have seen pro's run the am. They just train gun dogs and obedience so they think they're not a pro.... :? They're not fooling anyone and it will catch up with them sooner or later.

If you're refering to Rorem, I'm betting he is not running the AM. I would guess it is just a matter of how they were registered for the event with EE. The dogs are most likely entered in the open in multiple events each year with Dave as the handler. That infor gets saved in EE and you just check a box and boom, they are entered in the next event without having to re-enter all the personal info. In this case its most likely the owner handling the dog, but the handler info that is saved with the dog in EE was not changed to reflect such.

How's that for a theory!

A pro can't run in the Am.

What a pro can do is when they send in the entry on behalf of their client, go to a little bit of trouble and inconvenience and list the client as the handler in the AMATEUR stake. Apparently, that was an issue for the Brazosport trial.

:? ......................................................................

Could have been something else, but in this day of electronic entries, it's a pretty simply problem to remedy with a little effort.

Sometimes it's just a matter of "Get the dog entered!! I'll straighten it out when I get there."

Pretty sure Dave doesn't sit down and send the entries in and I know Danny doesn't.

From page 35 of Field Trial Rules & Standing Recommendations is this excerpt from Standing Recommendations:

3. The following definitions & standards should be followed in determining the status of any person to be an Amateur. (a) for purposes of eligibility to judge under section 3 of Chapter 14 of the Rules for Retriever trials, a person shall be considered an Amateur who during the period of two years preceding the trial in question has not earned any part of his or her livelihood from the training of a dog for hunting or field trial competition &/or from the handling of a dog in a field trial competition at any level. (Notice -- "any part" )

It carries on to (b), (c), (d)

You have to have great respect for those who announce & act like Professionals while in turn having disrespect for those who scam the system by taking any level of renumeration while wanting to play as an "Amateur".

"Shamateurs" (someone else coined this word)

They Co-Own dogs with other individuals who pay the bills.

They train dogs & sell them to other individuals.

Or they just take money under the table for doing training at any level of the dog's development.

The only thing I can find is eligibility to judge or handle as an amateur. The same thing that Marvin posted with (b) and (c) included. I see the time periods for judging and handling are different.

Ok I train a couple of gun dogs per month. I would like to get my amature status back becuase I have a couple of dogs getting close to being able to run the amauture. I was told I could not run for one year after I stop training dogs for income. This true.
