I took a normal drink of water and then my wife made me laugh and all of a sudden I was gasping for air. I had sucked a mouth full of water into my lungs or something and could not get any air into my lungs. I tried to make myself throw up but that didn't work so my wife hit me on my back real hard a few times then I finally got a little air. My face and lips turned blue and purple and my eyes were bulging out. I have a question what the heck should I have done to break the water lose sooner? Has anyone else ever chocked on drinking water like this?

Been there done that, one reason I stay out of ocean. The water seemed to come out on its own. Scared the poopie out of me.

I suspect it didn't go into your lungs but it trapped your epiglotis in the closed position with the water sitting on top. If that is actually what happened, I think performing the Hiemlick maneuver would have helped. or trying what Ken said....I'm not a medical expert, but it just seems to make sense to me.
