Just in case you haven't noticed or don't know............

We have a registered guest who has been posting quite a bit......

He goes by........."huntingrdr".

I met huntingrdr when I posted looking for bird boys at the Bluebonnet trial. huntingrdr PMed me right away and came to help.

Anyhow, I pay close attention to his posts knowing his age. I believe huntingrdr is only 16.

Why do I bring this to your attention? Well I personally think it is something special when a member of our youth today takes interest in his dog. There are so many other things this kid could be doing versus searching for answers and direction on how to train his dog.

I think it would be great if we all could appreciate this and take a minute to realize the opportunity we have to make a difference in helping someone young participate in dog games.

Here's to you huntingrdr. I commend you for your efforts in putting in the work to make your retriever better. If I can ever personally help you or your dog, feel free to call me or contact me anytime.

One last thing. You may spend many years training and competing with your dog or dogs in the future. But don't ever lose sight of why you were interested in doing all this in the first place................................................

cause you love your dog.

I echo your sentiment Ken. He seems to love this stuff, and I would expect him to become quite a trainer. He seems to be soaking up every bit of info he can get, and he's not afraid to ask for help.

Keep it up H-rdr! See ya at a hunt test some day.

Thanks alot guys! Thanks Ken, I appreciate it.

I enjoy training my dog and learning all this info, but some times you might think I am an idiot, but where I am now sometimes it is confusing. Seems like theres all kinds of ways to get the message across to the dog.

Thanks for all the help you have given me and hopefully one day you will see me at the SRS, Grand , or Master National. LOL

I hope I am not asking too many questions either, not trying to annoy you guys, just trying to get the info I need to train my dog.

He is now 5 and I am a junior in high school about to finish up the year with one more to go. My goal is to have him have his Senior title by this fall or spring, and maybe a master. Then...maybe onto the trial game until I head out the door to college.

Ken, I had a great time at that trial. I enjoy going to them, as it helps me learn what to do with my dog, meet new people, see what dogs have trouble with and hopefully teach my dog this stuff one day. Hopefully I can get to some more trials this fall and spring to throw some more birds for you guys.

Thanks for all the help.

Way cool!!!
I keep looking at the questions he asks and I say," if he is really only 16, he's gonna be one helluva dog trainer by the time he's 25!" 8)
Good luck, Robert.

Just came home from our Delta Waterfowl meeting where our regional rep. stated that the number of duck hunters is dropping in the U.S. and Canada.
We need more young people like Robert interested in this sport.
I have been a Firefighter/Paramedic for over twenty years and I usually see the kids that are in trouble so it is good to hear about the good one's out there from time to time.

Good job Ken Guthrie for taking the time to acknowledge Robert on this forum.

Good luck with your dog Robert

Robert, I'm glad this came to our attention. We're very glad you are interesting in retriever sports. I must warn you though that bad association will lead to nothing but trouble. keep that in mind around Ken, he'll try to convince you that its all about the dog and tell you these fabricated stories about him being a baseball legend with these incredible duck hunting skills...

Robert,

You are very lucky, you are getting an early start in something that can last your whole life. I wish I had done that. I'm much older than you and learning like you are.

I'll tell you two things:

First, remember why you do this and don't give it up. When we go to college and are young single people we are often distracted by things that seem very important at the time but aren't in the long run. I've had many friends get caught up in those things and waste time they will never get back.

Second, dogs are fun but don't forget to study hard. If you do well in school you are going to have an opportunity to spend more time with your dogs in the long run. Even if you wind up being a full time dog trainer, the knowledge of how to run a business will be invaluable. I personally wish I had started with dogs younger and paid more attention in school.

Lastly, if you ever find yourself on the east coast during hunting season, you have a spot waiting for you in my blind.

Ken,
I'm very happy that you started this thread. I have known Robert for about 2 years and let me tell you, this is one smart business man. I was so impressed with him when I got my first bunch of ducks from him. He called to tell me when they would be by to deliver them, but said the reason he had to wait so late was because he had to wait for his dad to come drive him to our place. I knew he was young when I first started talking to him about buying ducks, but didn't realize until that day that he wasn't even old enough to have a driver's license.

Robert just want to say, you are one of the most impressive young men I have met and want to commend you on your passion for the dogs.

You know one of those pups that you played with at our place that first time you came out, is Yank, who is now qualified for the Australian National.

Hey Julie, maybe Robert's touch put the magic in Yank !

Keep up the good work, Robert and hope to see you at a Hunt Test soon.

Marty
