My dog has been on tramadol and rymadyl for about a month now he had shoulder surgery in 2007. He woke up a month ago, he was just fine he went out to potty came in and couldnt put any weight on his front leg. He was in pain all night even tramadol didnt seem to help I took him to the vet we know from previous surgery reports he has a lot of arthritis also another tear that was not sucessful in repairing ( subscapularsis tear) so the vet gave him a pain shot and send him home on 2 rimadyls and four tramodol a day. He seemd like he was doing better but the last few days he is biting at his front (not the surgery leg) and back leg right at the joint while I was out he went after it so badly it was bloody when I came home.. He is 11 now they dont want to do surgery and he was diagnosed last year with nerve sheath cancer my vet didnt think this problem is do to cancer. MY thoughts are it could be pain elsewhere since he has a large lump on his shoulder that they say dont worry about wondering if pain is radiating down from that causing the pain. Just wondering if anyone else has had this type of problem?
Thanks

Oh!! I just spoke with a woman I met while I was out walking this morning. She lost her rescue Golden to Lyme disease because by the time it was diagnosed it was too late. Not trying to be a drama queen, but having had personal experience w/ anaplasmosis-have your vet run a tick panel. Just in case.

Beyond that-what x-rays, ultrasound and blood work have you had done?

When he was sick last year they ran a full series of blood work tested for valley fever lyme etc everything came back normal. He had a sudden neck pain we went to the Orthopedic specialist he couldn't find anything than we went to a neurologist after an exam he said to continue on meds and see how he does , he bounced back..and has been ok till a month ago. The licking of this joint has been on and off for about a year after this lastest lameness you can hear a clicking from that joint my vet thinks its just arthritis I will let him know tomorrow that these meds are not working. I may have to go back to Phoenix to the Orthopedic surgeon to find out whats going on.Its only the joint on both front and rear leg he's licking.
