I had a question and need some help. We recently had a litter and will be keeping a male pup. We obviously own the mother of the pup and I wanted to make sure that I don't cause any training issues. More specifically, do I need to keep the seperate in training in order to get the max out of the pup or will he be too interested in him mom? I know during the heat cycle that we must keep them apart but I just want to make sure that I get maximum results out of both dogs in respects to training. Any assistance is appreciated.-Jesse

When the pup is 7 weeks old, take it inside and crate train him (just as though you purchased a pup from someone else) You want to make sure the pup bonds to you, NOT to its mother. Keep all training separate. The only time I train a pup with an older dog is introduction to water (and some more advanced work down the road) Allow brief periods of supervised play, but for the most part keep separate while the pup is young.
