Here is my dilemma. My trainer is going on vacation for 5 days starting on Wed. He is having everyone come and get their dogs while he is away. Problem is this. Last Friday, while I was away, my 5.5 month old BLM has come down with a horrible cough. I took him to the vet as soon as I got home. She told me that it is "kennel Cough". She gave me some anti-bionics and told me that he would be contagious for 10 days. She said as long as I kept the two separated there wouldn't be any worry of him infecting her. Seems fishy. Would you find someone else to take my bitch that isn't sick? Would you put the infected dog in isolation boarding for 10 days @$20/day? Would you bring her home and keep her outside and him in the basement with no contact between the two?

Since your bitch is going to go back into training after your Pros vacation, I would find somewhere else to keep her or board her. I would no want to bring an "exposed dog" back to a training kennel.

If you were bringing her home for good or for a longer period - different answer - keep them seperated as best you can.

I recommend that you take the unaffected dog and board her for 2 weeks. This will help eliminate the possibility of a breakout. I know this is expensive to do but it would be cheaper than two visits to the vet.
