The majority won out in the poll.

New puppy classifieds (for LABS ONLY) were posted at the top of the Lab Pup classified area today.

18 ads were removed as they were 61 days or older.

The poll showed that the majority would like to see lab puppy ads pruned at 60 days, with those pruned off, able to re-post on page one. We'll give it a try and see how it goes!

Hey Chris,

I hate to bug you any more on these, but I think it would be cool if on the puppy ads, if someone claims the dogs are CERFed or Clear of CNM or Optigen A (etc etc etc) if the advertiser could actually list the number for that clearance.

I know they are REQUIRED for the hips but say the elbows are done too, it would be nice to have an actual number.

Some people don't CERF their dogs every year so when they list a CERF clearance one would ASSUME it was done within the last year or so. But it could have been a puppy CERF from 10 years ago.

The same with the CNM clearances. Some litters say the puppies are clear of CNM but does that mean they won't have the disease or that both parents of clear of being carriers?

I understand no matter what its a buyer beware and I gotta admit I am as lazy as the next guy when it comes to actually listing numbers but I do think that it would be a great addition to the "validity" of the ads posted.

Just a suggestion as always. Thanks a bunch.

I second that for the Golden litter listings. There are many posted that just say "OFA Good" or "CERF clear."

If clearances are going to be a requirement, I think folks should be required to list the number issued by the registry.

I don't think the number should be a requirement unless they aren't listed on the public database. All you need is the dog's registered name to look them up on offa.org

Besides, we need to leave the 'breeding police' something to do!

However, don't you take someone for their "word" if they say OFA Good or whatever?

If we're gonna make the certs a requirement, lets make NUMBERS a requirement.

CNM numbers are no longer listed. To my knowledge, there IS NOT database for Optigen.

CERF certs are only good for one year.

I think if you are interested enough, the OFA database has a nifty search function and the mods do enough without having to police the ads for numbers etc.
Then why require any mention of certs? I mean ofa's got a nifty search function. If one was interested enough, you'd still have to go to the ofa site.

If you are breeding quality, healthy puppies you should voluntarily post every clearance on both sire and dam that has been done. If it is not on there I feel like they may have something to hide and steer clear. Just my take.

Chris, if I were you I would only require what you feel like policing. The RTF "Gestapo" will do the rest.

Requiring the hips and eyes is a good start. Some of the big names in our game can and have made cases that the current requirement is too restrictive.

The 60 day change was made. Let's let this new change ride for a while and see how it goes.
