Lafayette Louisiana and surrounding areas!

My name is Mike and I am 24 years old. I recently moved to lafayette for work and am having trouble finding places to train. I dont know anyone from this area and land owners arent going to let complete strangers train on their property. If anyone from this area has any advice please let me know. Are there any retriever training clubs that would give me access to somewhere to train. I dont want to compete in ht or ft but just need somewhere to work a young dog to get her ready for next duck season. Any advice would be appreciated.

Contact Benny Landry head of Cajun HRC, they have access to some nice grounds in Arnaudville and train there as a club. Or, contact Ed Thibideaux in Morse and see if you can train with him. I'd put my money on Ed's dogs against any other HT trainer's dogs in the state! Cajun Riviera has awesome grounds in Whiteville but they train solely for FT's.

Joe Trahan in Arnaudville owns some nice grounds with good technical water and has access to tech water in Carencro. I'm sure if you are willing to help him throw birds he would be a good one to get with. Chad Vidrine does gundogs in New Iberia and you can contact him through Facebook. I don't know of anyone in the Abbeville area and I think most of them train over in Esterwood.

Oh, and with you being 24 years old and not interested in HT or FT's shows a lot of wisdom for your age. Seriously! I'd be chasing girls not dogs if I were 24.

Tim, that's Prejeans (pray-jons) and I'm still wating on my alligator and frog extravaganza!;-)

Where exactly is Cajun HRC HQ?

Lafayette.
Thanks for the advice i plan on contacting cajun HRC. For now, i am living in a house in a neighborhood with a very small yard. Do not have enough room to even do basic yard work with her for the time being. Not sure if this club is mainly for field work but i need somewhere i can work on basic drills also. My dog annie recently recovered from her second CCL surgery so i plan to bring her back into this VERY slowly.
There is a huge field behind the Hilton on Congress that I've seen folks doing drills and pattern blinds. The little pond next to the Hilton is loaded with frogs.
lol Man I've been all up side the head of that website and I don't see Lafayette mentioned anywhere.
Their president lives in Arnaudville and they host their HT's in Esterwood. Their membership lives from Opelousas(old-piece-of-loose-as) to New Iberia.
I actually live very close to that field. I figured someone would run me off if i went out there but i may try it out.
The part of the property near the Wetlands Reserch Center is owned by the state and the rest by the city. Just park behind the Hilton in their lot and don't drive on the property.
If your willing to make the drive, this would be very beneficial. I know first hand.
Be careful, Raymond might be looking to feed his pet gators!
