I know there are lots of preferences for certain brands of ecollars, how well they work etc., but I checked and could not find a thread on which one is the lightest. I am looking for a waterproof lightweight ecollar. I am guessing there will not be too much difference (I know - .3 oz is probably not worth bothering with), but I would like to hear some RTF opinions on this topic.

Sportdog appears to be the smallest. People either like or hate them. I take is your putting on a little dog?

my fianc'e had a sport dog and she loved it till the remote broke whatever you get make sure it is durable no sense in paying over a 100 bucks on something that will break the majority of them are decently small and the good ones are very comparible in price - I know you are going for light but i havent seen a newer one on the market that is over 1/2 a pound so not real bulky I us TT the pro I work with uses Dogtra they are both well made

My FYL is 55 lbs, thin fur and the collar rotates around neck to below her jaw and the contacts do not always work. I can I tighten up the collar to the point of choking her but that is not ideal. I thought a lighter collar might stay put. Longer contact points were also suggetsed.

Thanks for the suggetions on collar - I will check them out.

You need to snug up the collar. I don't think a lighter receivers going to affect whether it slides up over her head. Snug up the collar so you can only slide 3 or 4 fingers under it.

Would always use the longer points to make sure you are getting good contact (which is also more fair to the dog) without having to tighten quite as much.

You have a lot of variation in E-Collars even in what I think is the best Tri-Tronics.
Weight should not be your deciding factor, you should figure out what you want to use the e-collar for and select the particular one that provides what you need.

A pro will use a Tri-Tronics Pro 500 while a home owner would probably get a sport junior; big difference in options and price between the 2.

I have an older Dogtra 200 NCP Gold. Don't think they make that model anymore, but the reciever is very small and light.

lol, so are you going to come out and train with us? I was thinking of doing water but it got cold again.

You ended up getting a pro 500 also right? Sure beats that dogtra you had.
