Lupus Questions

Ive got a client dog that they think has Lupus. I've gotten some good info from searching on here. But I've got a couple more questions about Lupus:

1. Would y'all consider it a genetic defect that is inherited?

2. What is the long term prognosis for DLE (Skin) Lupus?

3. Anything else that can be offered is also helpful.

Thanks

I have no familiarity with this condition, I didn't even know dogs got it, but I am bumping this to the top in hopes you get someone to reply who maybe did not see it. Good Luck

Don't know about dogs but in humans DLE(discoid lupus erythematous) is the better type to have as it only effects skin. It usually does not progress to the other form systemic(SLE) which can effect organs , joints etc. There is no known inheritance pattern. It tends to a chronic disease controlled by topical steriods. The lesions will scar and cause loss of hair follicles.

hope this helps,

Tim
