I had the vet micro chip my new pup. I saw this discussion a month or so ago but isn't there a way to chip the dog, get it registered, but not have to pay a yearly fee?
My other dog is micro-chipped, but I am not paying any yearly fee?

Help would be appreciated.

You can register it for a one time fee with AKC's CAR (companion animal recovery) program. Go to www.akc.org for more info.

We buy ours (AVID) from a firm in Folsom, LA for about $11 and the owner registers it with AVID for about $15 and that is it for the lifetime of the animal. No other fee, ever.

I just searched and couldn't find the thread, but I think Dr Ed Aycock started it about the new chips. I think if I'm remembering correctly when you have this new one put in they automatically sign you up for the annual fee unless you specifically request otherwise--it's some 'delux' service (aka moneymaker) where they update your info annually. I think you can still do the one-time registry or as Andy suggested, register with AKC's CAR which is also a one-time fee.
