This was discussed some time ago -- that if somebody has something to say then they should have the decency to sign said post with their name -- I may not agree with everything that's posted here but I sign my name to everything I write and post -- reason for this post is that I've noticed some people still don't sign their posts with their actual names -- hiding behind aliases -- I got to thinking about this when I received a post and a PM from somebody who apparently knows me but won't reveal his or her name -- this in itself isn't a big deal -- but it got me to thinking about all the posts that could be hurtful that are posted under aliases -- just don't get it -- if you have something to say then be a big enough person to "own" whatever you state on the RTF -- put your name to it -- unless of course you have to hide for some reason -- or you have something to hide

I don't post my real name because I did a google search on myself once and was shocked at all the stuff that popped up. You put your real name, all your posts will pop up. If you don't mind that, fine.

When I was a kid growing up, all my friends called me Buzz. All through college, everyone called me Buzz. Then when I moved to Cincinnati from Michigan at the age of 30, the name faded. To this day, once in awhile I'll be walking through an airport, or around Disney World, or some such place, and I'll hear someone from the past yell out BUUUUZZZZZZ. Instantly, I know I've just run into a long lost friend...

Anyone who wants to know who I am can find out by PM. I always put my real name in PM's. I'm just a nobody anyway, you would be very underwhelmed...

There have been a few times I wanted to play a prank and was unable to because my name is in the avatar. However, I think it avoids a lot of foolish rumor talk to have real names known. This reminds me of an article I read recently that stated that forums have become what “CB’s” were in the 70’s. Half of the people back then and today are fakes in one way or another.

If someone is going to say something about someone else or their dog they should use their name. If they don’t I see it as a form of cowardice and discredit whatever is being said.

Otherwise, I’m fine with aliases for a variety of reasons.

Sincerely,

Ron Mexico

I had a PM that related the other side of this issue -- I still feel the same way as what I expressed in the beginning of this thread -- however, I can see the reasons some would not post their real names -- and I believe that dialogue on this type of issue can be very healthy for all sides -- whether we name ourselves or not -- obviously I choose to be among the named rather than nameless -- but each side has a point in its favour

We've had numerous posts on this in the past.

Its been discussed at length actually.

I don't put my real name in my posts. But because I am older than dirt and been around here before the beginning of time, most folks know who I am.

I also have a link to my website, so that pretty much lets the somewhat computer literate folks find out who I am if they wanna. Or they can just ask.

Regards,

One of Joe S bird throwers.

Now M...

While I have helped at a couple of FT's since then, I haven't picked up a whistle, loaded a dog, ran a mark or blind or trained a dog in any form or fashion since Oct 04 after the Blue Ridge RC test.

I keep the bird throwers around though...one never knows when the urge will strike to start training again.  8)

Did I Tell You I Got A New Puppy Regards,

Joe S.

A agree that if you are going to say something about someone or their dog, you should have the cajonies to post your real name. Other times I think it would be appropriate to post a real name is if you're giving someone advice on what to do with an aggressive or dominant dog, because to me both the advice givers and takers should be really careful about giving and taking advice in a potentially very dangerous situation. Maybe the same should go for advice on health issues. People deserve to know who they are getting that type of advice from.

When I see advice from someone who isn't familiar to me as a regular here who I respect, I have a habit of researching back through their past postings to help me make a judgement of what kind of person I'm dealing with.

Would your "bird throwers" care to get out of the cold and come to South Florida where it is in the mid 80's today. They can work on their sun tans while "throwing birds"

I've always wondered how Joe gets his avatar to shuffle through a few different pictures like that. Inquiring minds want to know!

We all know this to be malarky...Joe S. doesn't keep bird throwers that are older than dirt.

Besides, I KNOW ALL the 'older than dirt' community, and you hain't registered.

The funny bit about this thread is I always thought Wayne Dibbley and Jason Gillette WERE real names. Imagine my shock in finding out Frank Rizzo, and Ron Mexico have been pulling the wool over our eyes all this time. :?

I hate to admit this, but if "Wayne" or "Jason" had ripped me, it wouldn't have made any difference had they used their real names or not, because I don't know either one from a bale of hay.

This is not to put down Mike's request, but it does point out how insignificant the moniker is, unless it gets to the point of hiring a lawyer and serving papers. These BB's always provide a certain amount of anonymity, except to those with reputations that precede them, like Chris, Dr. Ed, or the UIM.

OTOH, when I read a post that has a lot in it that I agree with, I like to find out just who that individual is so a further relationship can develope. I've respected Joe Miano's views for a long time. His use of Subroc is unique, and it sets him apart from any ordinary Joe...excluding of course Joe S of bird thrower fame.

WAH has had so many aliases, I doubt he even knows who he really is at times, but his views give him away. Same for KJRice. For all I know he may be fooling us too...mebbe his real name is KJOats. Matters not, he's not playing with a full deck regardless of his moniker.

Of course that can be said of many on here...Moosegooser being the leader of that group. And about all we know about /Paul or Bubba is they live in a strange land surrounded by wierd folks that love to jello wrestle.

I know many here have your view, Mike. Like Lee stated, It's come up on previous threads, and on one of them, as I recall, many of us fessed up and provided a brief resume of credentials. You can search for that and review most of the aliases still hanging around. But I believe it was pretty much left the way it is, because if your views on anything, political or otherwise, differ with Uncle Bill, how would they change if my last name of Spitzer was added to the moniker?

For that matter, if some outrageous thread gets posted by an obvious alias, it doesn't take long before that individual is drummed into submission. Whatdoyathink happened to the fancy moderator?
