Looking at the two rule books, the big difference between Started and Junior is delivery to hand. Anything else?

In AKC you can't talk to the dog after you signal to the judge you are ready until the judge calls your number.

In HRC you blow a duck call to get things going and you don't have to be released by the judge. When the bird hits the ground, its fair game.

Although you can run a dog in a started test before the dog is delivering to hand, its not a good idea IMO.

Both your marks will splash in Started. They are likely to be "up and out" in Junior.

Don't forget the guy (or gal) standing next to you firing a popper gun in HRC. If the dogs havent practiced with this they will sometimes turn to look at the gunner and not at the mark.

Ran some HRC Started tests last Fall. The fist weekend of tests, all water marks landed in the water. The second weekend of tests, the second day of tests, both "water" marks landed well onto land on the other side of the water. So prepare your dog to swim across water and exit on a bank on the opposite side to make retrieves no matter which venue you choose. HRC marks tend to be a little shorter than AKC, but not always. HRC does not require delivery to hand, but the dog must get it close to you; you cannot walk out to get it- you get maybe a step or two.

AKC has a shot flyer, have dog ready for a cripple. I have not seen any shot flyers in HRC, I was told they stopped that a few years back due to safety. AKC no gun shot at the line, HRC gun shot at line. In AKC if the dog drops the bird at your feet DO NOT PICK UP THE BIRD! they will fail you for that. have the dog pick it up and you take it from the dog. HRC must wear camo, AKC you do not have to but you can.
