OK, a quick update before I head out for day 2. Day one first test was a diversion bird blind for both Master and Open. Dogs would pick up a shot flyer, then run the blind which was about 165 for the Open and 150 for the Master. The blind was down a fairly steep hill through some cover at the bottom and back up the other side. Strong cross wind and several gaps on the upside of the hill for the dogs to choose from. Most dogs handled this test well. It was just a warmer of things to come.
Second series, Open was a 265 yd retired gun up the middle, 170 yd left hand bird thrown onto the dam of a dry pond, and a 120 yd flyer on the right. Wind angling across the test from left to right. Most dogs got the outside birds clean then would break down a little early on the retired gun when they hit the scent behind the left hand station.
Second series , Master. The middle retired gun moved in to about 120 yds and threw angle back, left hand gun stayed the same, and the flyer moved more to the right. Master dogs had a little more trouble with the left hand bird as they didn't want to go across the dried pond and would skirt around and end up on the back side of the gun station and get hung up in the scent. Most ran deep on the retired gun and worked their way back.
Third series for both Master and Open was a land blind back across the marks. I didn't get to see this series, but heard the master dogs handled it well, but the Open dogs and the flyer crates and scent were good friends. Also a very narrow gap for dogs to run which made easy for them to get lost on the last 3rd of the blind.
Water marks this morning. I forgot the camera yesterday so will try to get some pics today.
