Okay I have no idea what category to look under in the yellow pages and/or google, but I'm looking for a a business who provides the service of clearing/cleaning land.

I need brush piles burnt/removed; dead beetle infested trees cut down; underbrush cleared; scrub oak removed.....

So what should I be looking for?

We are considering that, but we do NOT need another Haymen fire here in CO - would rather consider going through a licensed contractor and let them worry about the liability of burning brush piles - if you could see what amount of work needed to be done you would understand, I can easily imagine a fire getting out of control.

Trying to do the right thing regards,

Ask your fire department who they would recommend...

Grading, Excavating, Tree Removal Services

also, not sure what type of spot you're looking to clear, but there are timber companies that will come through and take the good trees and pay you for them, offsetting the expenses of clearing the rest. Keep in mind, it will look like a trash heap when they're done taking their trees... So have someone lined up behind them to clean it up, unless they offer a service where they do. But from what I understand, in our area at least, it would be two separate companies.

Most of the subdivision developers around here use tree services. They are clearing 600 acres behind our house for a golf course developement.I would go to work in the morning and by the time I came home at night entire woodlots would be gone. They've removed almost everything. There is one old oak tree in thier pile that still has somebodys' tree stand in it from deer hunting. There is a new quarantine in our area because of the Emerald Ash Borer.I counted up to 7 semi-trailers at once being loaded with wood chips to be hauled off. This was going on daily for awhile. After the quarantine expanded they had to reshread thier chip piles smaller.I just read yesterday that firewood was found in Minnesota with ash borers from wood from Illinois.I don't know how well this quarantine is enforced. It's amazing how much these guys can clear out in a day.My avatar is Otter up on one of those chip piles.

Kristie,

I can not sell the trees - covenants clearly state that and I really do not want to do that, this is one reason we bought land in the mountains! :D But it is a good idea! We are going to clear out the bettle infested trees, cut a few down that are not in good places for training and use them for personal firewood and then "park" cut the majority of the rest. Should look real spiffy once we get it done.

--------

Do not know about the fire department thing, but I will research that.

---------

We bought 51 acres in the mountains. It was an old ranch that was divided into smaller parcels, the developers had done some clearing and we have some big piles of wood/trees/schrubs on the property already. We still need to clear one hill side that was a ton of dead fall. The scrub oak must go so I have open areas to train on. The piles that are on the property are too huge to burn or at least for my comfort level - I just don't see how we can safely manage one pile.....hence why I'd rather spend the money to pay some one with insurance/bonded vs. me ending up with a major forest fire - got to realize people in CO are a little sensitive of forest fires, especially after the huge haymen fire....

I did find out that the ranch developer wants to clear some other parcels and we are going to see about sharing the cost and/or using the same people.

We close on the land in a week - I'm totally EXCITED! :D

It costs about $1000 a day to do the work you are talking about. Find someone that people recommend. Use a similar method of selecting a professional dog trainer. That's alot better than the Yellow pages. You'll want someone when they leave all you need to do is spread the grass seed. HPW
