They make some softer ones just for puppies - of course for a retriever they outgrow them by about, oh, 12 weeks...........

If they lose interest in them, you can boil the Nylabones in chicken broth to recharge them.

Some of mine love them, some won't touch them. But they are a safe chew toy.
