I noticed yesterday "Doc", my 8mo YLM limpted off his front right leg once or twice in the yard. I figured I would just keep an eye on it as he only did it on occasion and he didn't seem to be in too much discomfort, he just wouldn't put weight on it once in a while. Well, here I am on a Friday night, no vet open until Monday and it has progressed to a point that he will not bear any weight at all. When he sits, he has his right front foot off the ground. I never noticed him do anything that would cause any type of injury, it looks completley normal, no swelling, when I look it over and manipulate the joint, he doesn't pull away, pad looks normal, I'm at a a loss as to what happened but my concern is that it progressed this far in 24 hours, any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. He's eating normal, acting normal, and still kicking the crap out of the wife's ankle biter in the living room like normal,...... just doing it on 3 legs;-)

Thanks,

Sean

You might want to give him one Rymadil (sp?) a day until you can get to the Vet. Agree with the crate confinement and airing on lead.

Crate rest, airing on a lead and if you don't have Rimadyl (I don't keep it on hand), you could try 1/2 asprin - we use Ascriptin with Maalox in am and in pm (total 1 a day). It could be something pulled as pups charge around like crazy. It could be something like Pano, which is a growing pain kind of thing that does go away with time. An x-ray might be necessary or it could clear up in a day or two.

Dogs are just like people, they pull and twist things. I have this happen all the time. If there is no severe pain, I tend to watch if for about two days. Most of the time it gets better. If it doesn't off to the vet we go.

If you do go to the vet ask him for some rimadyl (sp?) or dermaxx to kept on hand. The last trip with one of my dogs with a soft tissue issue, my vet gave me some dermaxx samples.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It's been tough keeping an 8mo lab in a kennel all weekend but I did take your advice, kenneled or at my feet in my office all weekend. Outside on leash and no fighting with the ankle biter. It hasn't gotten any worse, just not any better either. He doesn't act like it is hurting him, he just isn't using it at all. We're off to the vet tomorrow, I'll let you know what we find out.

Just back from the Vet. A few x-rays to confirm it's just Pano. Everything looked good on x-ray, got some Rimadyl to keep on hand. Hopefully in a week or 2 things will be all cleared up. Thanks again for the responses/suggestions!
