Wendy at cresthill kennels in Virginia takes all of hers to a guy in Pennsylvania who does them awake. I'd email her....

Two good ones in VA: Dr. Scott Dove of Companion Animal Hosp. in Gainesville, is popular with local breeders, very reasonable and very knowlegeable about performance dogs...he has lure coursingsighthounds and is an avid foxhunter.

And Dr. Steven Stang of Loudoun Veterinary Service in Purcellville has a very good reputation among Lab breeders and is a Lab owner/breeder himself; he is very experienced at taking OFA hip and elbow xrays. Too bad you just missed a clinic Apr. 28 there, where Stang did hip xrays for $75!

I believe Dr. Dove will do them without sedation if the owner so requests. I don't know about Stang because my dog was done at a Sunday clinic where all the dogs were lightly sedated.

I have been using Steinbach Vet Clinic in Blue Belle PA for the past five years or so. We have gotten some VERY good results. On average we do about 6 - 10 OFAs a year.....my own dogs and puppies that I have bred. Dr. King is very particular about the placement of the dog and will reshoot x-rays as many times as is necessary to get the "right one". They have recently switched to digital x-rays so it doesn't cost any extra to take extra shots, you can take a copy home on CD and the x-rays are submitted the day you take them. You will talk to Carol Ann or Wendy to make an appointment. Their phone number is 215-646-0462. It usually costs about $120 - $130 to do hips AND elbows. Ironically I will be taking six up on the 15th for official OFAs.
