Why would you even want to do it without permanent id???

My vet won't send them in without permanent ID. He'll do them, but he won't send them in. I didn't think you could actually give the dog an OFA number without some form of permanent ID - sure, they'd probably read them for you. What's not to stop me from sending in one set of hips for another dog if they're not microchipped or tattooed?

Gerard is correct- I just went thru this. I did my OFA 7 years ago and the dog was and is chipped-but the chip # was not put on the forms I guess. I had never even noticed this until I did my litter registration. When I got the confirmation from the AKC his Cerf was noted but not the OFA. So upon contacting the AKC they told me that I had to straighten it out with the OFA and that the oFA would then transmitt the data to the AKC. So I did. The OFA was very helpful. I emailed them the data and they also will include the DNA test info and I belive the CNM test info. The data is uploaded monthly to the AKC-So there will be a small delay and then they will have it. Now my boy will get that little "CHIC" thingy. I never did understand why he did not have it and my female did as they both had ALL the tests-now I know. Both the AKC and OFA were very helpful thru this. The micro chip is so low cost and so easy it seems silly not to use one. Plus if the dog is ever lost it greatly increases your chance of recovery.
