Here is my friend's dog, Sasha. When he adopted her, they told us she was GSD and Rottie. You can see the Rottie coloring definitely. However, the white markings and her body type, plus the fact she howls, makes me wonder about some hound in her. And she'll find a blood trail before any other dog lol. What do you guys think?

Trying to do the Shepherd stance...

Thanks! (Ok, yes, I'm having fun with my camera today lol)

I'd say nix the rottie ... looks more like black & tan coonhound to me, and I don't really see any rot shapes, bone structures, etc. in there; as for other breeds thrown in the mix ...

her top line (hips to shoulders) leads me away from GSD, but maybe,
looks like she's got a lab's head, ears, and expressions; are her feet webbed?
i dunno, maybe some beagle in there too.

shoot, just get you one of those breed genetics tests when they come out ... i give up.

lol thanks! Yeah we should check out that test I forgot! My friend (her owner) researched Rottie and said that the brown triangles on the chest/shoulder are trademarks of the breed coloring. You can see them in the first photo. I've heard someone throw lab out there too but her ears perk up unlike a labs. I believe her feet are webbed. I didn't think of the black and tan, I'll dig into them a little see what I can find. When we went to adopt her she was in with a bunch of puppies I assumed to be her brothers and sisters because the woman told us she took in the whole litter, and one looked exactly like a GSD.

Thanks for the first shot at it! lol.

The coloring pattern is called "tri-color." You see it in Shelties, Collies, Basenjis, etc.

The first thing i thought when i saw the pic was daschund/lab...

one of the favorite dogs i ever had at the kennels was a pug lab. it was awesome. A small size lab with a pug face and a pigtail. Was the cutest thing i've ever seen. If they did a designer dog like THAT, i might get one. lol

LOL, thanks Kristie. I'd love a lab that looked like a pup it's whole life lol, a dwarf without the health problems! Nothing cuter than pups. The vet just aged her at 5.5 months I believe. She weighs about 30lbs too. She's getting tall and jumps anything she can, jumps far and high lol. She's very vocal though...to the point of Chinese torture whining lol. He's contacted a local trainer who does OB as well as Schutzund, cadaver, police dog, etc.

the ears don't look low-set enough for coonhound, maybe some foxhound in there.

sure is an awful cute dog, though, and a nice size and alert expression.

She is 5.5 months in the pictures, I just took them yesterday. She was doing the sheperd stance all on her own lol. She is an intelligent dog, very alert, always ready and on the go, rarely stops. I like her except for the incessant whining at nothing all the time lol. She's stubborn in that she'll go back for more if you tell her no but give her a harsh correction and she acts like the world is ending.

Thanks for all the thoughts!

Sure doesn't look like black and tan coonhound...looks like perhaps some German jagdterrier in there, maybe with beagle or Jack Russell. Another photo in a few months may be more revealing. ;)

So that is possible for a female to be impregnanted by different dogs and have them come out in one litter?

I'll have to take photos in a couple months and see what she looks like then. Thanks everyone for the responses.

Cute pup!! Maybe Beagle, Australian Shepherd, maybe Sheltie or some setter or spaniel. and due to the sheer numbers of them - maybe Lab. Pup doesn't have big bones so it doesn't look like it'll be very big when fully grown.

When I am trying to ID breeds I look at body type, coat, ear carriage, head shape and tail - then I look at markings. There are 4 or 5 color variations that will crop up in total mixes, the solid color, black and tan or tri, the agouti/GShepherd coloring, any combo of hound colors, Black/solid color of any type & white underbody or "Mantle" and any pie bald spotted combo colors.
