has anybody else had this issue? My pup keeps eating the kitty litter and specifically the ones with poop in it. I catch him and he bolts.

Thoughts?

Kitty Kandy...must be like icecream to us.

I agree with Susie see if you can put the litter box up high. I used to keep it on a chest freezer to keep a dog out of it. But I've see people who have put it into a closet or a cabinet and installed a small doggie door to keep big dogs out.

We call it Catmond Roca at our house. Luckily we have an extra bathroom with tub we never use - tub has a solid sliding shower door, so we put the cat box in there.

That won't help with the stray cats in the field, though. Our two year old Golden can smell it from 300 yards. I knew we were in trouble at 9 weeks old. we took him out for a field walk, he alerted with nose in air and ran a straight line literally 150 yards to a terd. I was impressed and horrified at the same time.

At 2 yrs, he's finally getting to the point where he'll at least pass up half the terds - but not all.

The clay soil is very hard here in the desert. Our very ambitious beagle, Rip-a-Roo, dug holes around the yard, we believe for the sole purpose of attracting cats. He had a bona fide cat turd cache.

God speed the Ripster.

We keep our cat box in a room the dogs cannot access. Our neighbors put theirs in a cabinet, and installed a cat door to the cabinet. I think it is some walmart grade microwave stand, with an enclosed cabinet below.

Bdwilliams idea of a cover has not stopped my muts. They just knock it off or tip it over.

Cat poop is one thing, eating the litter itself can be very dangerous to dogs.
I don't know if they still make it but years ago our dog ate Litter Green, an alfalfa based cat litter. Had we not seen her when we did, she would have died. It gets in them and absorbs all the moisture in their stomachs and it swells up. Dog tried to barf it up but couldn't. A trip to the emergency vet saved her
