I don't know if you've already seen the article on Joe DeLoia by Tom Davis called "The Dog Reader" in the Feb/March 2007 issue of The Retriever Journal. The story is about the nearly 90 year olds career in dog training. There are some nice photos of Joe in the 50's. Other historic photos are Art Massie with Massie's Sassy Boots bred by Joe. Spirit Lake Duke about a year old and other photos from dogs he raised and trained.

There are areas where Joe might be given too much credit such as Massie's Sassy Boots which he had helped Art Massie with the training before selling the dog at 18 months. Or the article doesn't mention Joe Schomer who did the training on Spirit Lake Duke, but it is an article on the K9 Corps trainer Joe Deloia.

Response about the article from Tom Schomer (Son of retriever trainer Joe Schomer, trainer of Spirit Lake Duke)

Says the author gives too much credit to Joe Deloia for finding Duke. Joe Schomer was a game warden in Spirit Lake training with Duke daily.
