Whoa, I had hoped I wouldn't have to post one of these topics for a while yet. Guess that was not so to be. One of our young males stopped eating Sunday morning. Didn't eat anything since then till this morning when we got him to gingerly eat a couple bites of puppy food. Wouldn't drink water either and was not at all himself. i.e, not pacing his kennel, bouncing all over the place, just standing around, moody...... So, took him to the vet. Called this afternoon to see what they found. Turns out they couldn't get him to swallow anything and thought maybe he had gotten into some gas or something( ) Possibly burned his esophagus. :( Keeping him overnight, giving him some medication as well. If he is not better tomorrow, they are going to put one of those thing-a-ma-jigs down his throat to see some pictures of what it looks like down there.
So, please keep him, as well as us, in your thoughts. Also, say a prayer that the vet will have a special going where regulars will get 50% off :D

Update from the vet this afternoon. Doesn't think it is the esophagus anymore because when he throws up, there isn't any blood in it. Can't keep anything down right now, she thinks the kidneys are not working right and there is some build up. :( Sort of frusterating for her because the tests keep coming back negetive/clear. Can't remember everything from the phone conversation but that basically says it.

Still praying for a less than $1000 bill regards,

He seems better, happy to see dad when he visited this morning. Unfortunatly, it still could go either way. Vet thinks it might be Lepto but is not 100%. He finally started eating(Either they start eating and live to tell about it, or stop and end up down under), but now the liver is acting weird so...... :(

Well, I've got Good news and bad news. Unfortunatly the bad news is most recent so I don't know if the good news counts or not.....Anyway, the good news was that he was eating and drinking very well on Friday and Saturday. The bad news is that the vet couldn't get him to eat a drop all day today, neither could we when we came up to visit, and he is back on fluid IV's tonight. SO, we are bringing him home for the day tomorrow, maybe a change of scenery will do the trick and get him eating. If we can't, well, it don't look too good. Waiting for the Lepto test results back tomorrow.

Well, we are hoping it ain't. According to a vet the vet talked this morning, the other vet thought the symptoms sounded like Addisons(sp??). So, another test this morning. It is genetical and will be passed on if he survives and is bred, so there goes any hopes for a future stud dog. :(

sick dog

I had a pug with addisions she would be fine one minute and than collapse had to rush her to the vet she would get fluids and bounce back but than she started getting secondary infections seemed to get worse as she got older I finally had to put her to sleep.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I hope now that they know what it is they can treat him. Must be very disappointing to you though. We had a rescue dog(Shepherd cross) that developed Addison's and it was hard on her. Good luck with your guy!

Just got the tests back, it is addisons. :(
Dogs can do really well with a drug regime for Addisons, though. It's not cheap, but at least there's hope for a quality of life...

Wish the news was better. Hang in there. Hope he feels better soon.
