Skijoring is a fun way for both retriever and owner to stay in shape over the winter.
I usually tire out (double-poling) before my lab does:

Wow, you guys are moving fast, I could never do that. Good for you finding a way to stay active.

1st job out of the U was outside Leadville, CO. They have an annual event the culmination of which is skijoring.
1/4 horse pulls the competitor on ski's through an obstacle course at full speed as the horses have special shoes.
Training a 1/4 horse to run a straight line full speed is not easy & going through the slalom course @ full speed
is less so. If you have an opportunity to watch one do so as it is fast action.

I love Skijoring. My Golden and I used to do alot of skijoring when I lived in Alaska. Haven't done it in years, but am hoping to get back into it once my kids get a little older. We used to do the club races, and it was always fun seeing peoples faces when they would see me heading to the line with a golden retriever, and even better when we passed them!
