I just read on ESPN that the University of Illinois has finally capitulated to the NCAA and will remove the Chief as their mascot. It was a 20 year battle.

As an alumni I am disappointed. While I attended Illinois had good football and basketball teams. The Chief danced at every game. His image was respected and a source of pride.

The pursuit of political correctness will homogenize our country and society to the point of losing everyones heritage. Peoples "feelings" have become tyrannical in their ability to control our society.

What's next? Will PETA put on a campaign to have all animal mascots banned? Will the treehuggers get the NCAA to force Ohio State to drop Brutus Buckeye?

The University of Illinois was MY school and as a graduate in 1962, the Chief will forever be part of my heritage. There was NOTHING negative about our mascot and those that say there is..........are mentally and socially skewed. Actually, that is a brief paraphrasing of my true feelings and thoughts. Got to appear PC and sensitive you know.

This is beyond ridiculous!! We have a private high school here that, since its inception, its sports teams were known as the "Little Indians". My brothers played when they attended. In the last year (possibly 2) this was deemed politically incorrect and the team was redesignated. The irony? My family is Scotch/Irish/French/Indian & we never found it offensive.

Some people think too much!!

Unfortunately it'll get worse before it gets better. Now that Hanoi Jane is on her own with a large batch of Ted's moola, she'll start in on the Washington Redskins, and her husbands Braves.

In Nodak, the Fighting Sioux are having a helluva time keeping their name at the University of N.D. Hope they can keep their sticks on the ice and keep on keepin' on.

Living around reservations, I find the major hypocrites aren't even Native Americans. ( we used to use the I word, but in some circles that's as bad as the N word). It's all too frequently liberal socialists sticking their nose into affairs they feel they are better solving than the poor NA. They've succeeded in making me pretty calloused.

According to an e-mail Sweet Bride sent to me, Hillary Clinton recently addressed a gathering of members of various Indian Nations. She told them everything they wanted to hear about what she would do for their people if elected President. She was then given the Indian name of "Walking Eagle".

Later, when a member of the press asked one of the Tribal leaders to explain the significance of "Walking Eagle" he responded:
"That's when the Eagle is so full of shi*, he can't fly."

Trustees deny the timing has anything to do with early round NCAA or NIT games and host designations.........where there is money to be made.

Having to play games on the road was a factor, too. The NCAA is.....well, never mind.

I see a potential big business springing up in Champaign/Urbana.......the rental and sale of hundreds of Chief Illiniwek costumes. :D :D
