I'm looking for ducks or pigeons in the MD/VA area. I would prefer live pigeons and dead ducks but will take any combination of the two. However, I really need some live ones to introduce my pup to. I'm willing to drive a ways to get them so any leads are appreciated.

Thanks,
DH

DH - not sure where you can get dead DUCKS, but you should be able to catch a heck of a lot of live pigeons. Get yourself a pigeon trap or fishing net on a pole with a flashlight. Go out at night under highway overpasses or barns and you can scoop them right up. Someone else out here on RTF might have a local contact for you. Members of a local retirever club will be able to steer you in the right direction also.

I do have access to a pigeon trap but was hoping not to have to use it. Last time it resulted in lots of question and answer with law enforcement.

I'm in Alexandria, right outside of DC.

I also was lucky enough to get some dead birds over the weekend but am still looking for a few live ones.

Thanks,
DH

Lucky, Dawson??? There are some folks responsible, or should I say whose dogs were responsible for your getting them that would beg you to take all of the accursed things you could get your mitts around. Just never let them (the birds) show up anywhere near a retriever field trial again.

If you do a little research there are some folks 20 miles from you in Cheltenham MD who will likely be able to help you.
Hint: they won a recent Field Trial

Breck, "some folks" don't let just anybody train with them. The criteria is you got to have odd breeds or be an odd--hold on a minute, how'd you ever get invited in there?

Good going on your run of placements.

I got a bunch of pigeons, free, from pigeon racer in Winchester a few years ago. The were culls from her flock that were not up to par. You might poke around and look for pigeon racers or people who do dove releases at weddings. I found her website and sent an email. She knew they were for dog training and did not seem to mind much.

Good Luck.
