I was just reading the post about swimming a bitch that is in heat.. I thought of two more..
1. Do you OFA or penn-hip a female that has recently been in season? or do you wait say three months after the cycle ends?

2. Do you think one bitch in season will bring another one in ?

just wondering, as i have heard so many differing opinions of these two questions??

thanks in advance maria

I believe OFA says wait for 2 months after the cyccle to OFA. Yes, they can bring the others in heat but never the one you are waiting for it seems.

Yes you are supposed to wait to OFA a female in heat. You won't get an accurate reading because I think their joints are more loose at that time. That's what I was told anyways.

Like Erin Edge said, I'd wait on both penn-hip and OFA.
There is swelling with the estrous cyle.
And yes, If your bitch is due to be in heat and there is another bitch around that is in heat she may bring yours in as well "BUT" never the one that you are counting on

I ofa'd a bitch in heat once--we were planning on breeding her that cycle and the owner let time slip away. I did the OFA--looked good to me and we bred--OFA result: EXCELLENT (while in heat).

But yes--being in heat can increase joint laxity so I do recommend waiting at least a month after all signs of heat are gone.
