I was going make more deer sauage this week and decided to smoke it with pear wood. i told a friend of mine about it and he told me he knew where a pear tree was that had been damaged by Rita. last week he and i went cut the bigger branches off the tree it was like going into a jungle. brought them home,left them in the yard so i could cut them up in smaller pieces. my wife and i went bring a friend some fresh shucked oysters this morning come home, NO branches :x i went ballastic. my next door neighbor shows up and i tell him about my ordeal and he looks at me and said "well me and george thought it was a branch from your oak tree so we're burning them in our fireplaces as we speak :evil: it took every ounce of self-control to keep me from causing him bodily harm

I understand your pain Bobby. I have three pear trees and when I prune, I guard those limbs with my life!!!

Just so you know what a good guy I am, I will prune some more small ones and give them to you this spring if you are in our area.

Need to thin the branches some more anyway.

If I have to duck to get a lawnmower around them, I don't want them.

But those pears make one heckuva cobbler!!!!

I agree. Unfortunately long suffering husband would not. By crickey was he sooooo angry when I had a gardener over recently who followed MY instructions, and trimmed a few of Andrew's favourite trees. Andrew threatened to trim my gardenias.

Had a biggg Black Walnut that died this this year. I have a friend that has a frame shop they just opened up. When she saw what I had, she asked," what are you gonna do with it". I told her I was gonna burn it in the fire place. She 'bout croaked. I'll take it and make frames with it.

I still have some left if you want to smoke your sausage with that...UB

I feel your pain for the purloined Pear limbs. Years ago I planted a Pear tree in my North airing yard at my kennel. I put 2X4 welded wire around it to keep the dogs from chewing on it. It got to bee about 6 inches DBH and for the first time had some pears on it when it just up and died.

I took my chain saw and cut it up into pieces about 4 inches long (even the smaller branches) and put them in my shop to use when smoking butts in the smoker. Still have about 1/2 bu. of the pieces left, but if I forget and leave the door open to the shop one of the dogs will get in and grab one of the pieces to gnaw on. Sure does give the pork a great flavor though.

Can't tell you about Bradford's, I planted four, the deer loved three as antler rubbing trees and died and the fourth is still alive by the shop, leaning slightly to the South-East thanks to Katrina. Not big enough to prune as yet. I have a Stone Pear that annually bears to breaking limbs and I'm saving the limbs from it. The deer love the pears that fall and the few I can save can well, Bill

Come get my Pear branches you Cajun-American! They have been sitting curbside since I had to do some heavy trimming on one of my Bradford Pears ever since Smith tried to get his 18 hole trailer down my driveway. It was either the limbs or his awning, so the limbs got whacked! Too big for the trash folks to pick up.

Heading for the big Fais Do Do at the La Boucherie Des Cajuns in St Martinville. Butchering of the swine at noon, Cochon de lait at 5pm! Music by Travis Matte and the Zydeco Kingpins and the Ossum Playboys.
