While I was at the Snowbird field trial this weekend, I purchased a very interesting book from Fred Kampo, written by Fred Kampo and Carolyn McCreesh titled the History of Retriever Field Trials. It is a factual book about the early years of the field trials from I believe 1931 to the 1940's. It is very interesting reading if you are into the beginning of the field trial sport.

I bought for myself for Christmas and really enjoyed it. Interesting how the first pros were "imported" to work for wealthy retriever enthusiasts. One very prominent early FTer completely quit the sport when the pro he entrusted his dogs to passed away unexpectedly. It's interesting to read stories like these. The FTs were certainly a LOT different than today. More of a HT like challenge at best.

The next period of Retriever Trials history is planned for 1942-1960 and any help is appreciated. Important topics I see are Dogs For Defense, Formation of the QuarterMaster K9-Corps, Annual National reports, High Point Derbies, Rule Changes, double headers club, etc.

Photographs of the events, trainers, and the dogs would help to illustrate the final product. Fred Kampo has said that any profits will be used for the benefit of the retriever breeds.

I would love to read this book, too. Can anybody tell me where I can buy it?
