They charge me extra for stuff like the destination being in a rural area, extra gas, and the box being an odd shape.

Yes, they charge extra. Some of the stuff you'd pay extra for online anyway (fuel surcharge, rural delivery, etc.) But their final charge is "x%" more. I want to say about 10% or so. One time had to overnight Joie stuff when he was down in the islands and I think it was normally 40 something and I paid $62 or so at the UPS store. I would have taken it back home!! LOL
If you go online and generate your own shipping label, you can leave it there to be shipped at no charge.
But there is a surcharge to what you would normally pay going to a standard UPS place or buying the shipping online.
I've gotten where I do all my fedex and US Mail shipments online. I pay for the postage/shipping, print the labels (got special labels) and off it goes... MUCH easier than waiting in line at least at my local post offices (all of them).
