A dog I know, out of an FC/AFC, has a serious temperament problem (does not tolerate being touched w/o a low threatening growl). I am told, but do not know it from direct personal experience (and therefore will not disclose the name of this sire) that the sire is known to be a bit hostile too.

The buyer apparently figured this out after the dog matured.

So, in order to avoid this, and since I strongly prefer a friendly dog, which field trial studs throw dogs w/ good temperaments? ...i.e, the kind of dog you could trust to babysit your little kids or puppies?

Oh, and I know the female has A LOT to do w/ it, but if you're visiting the litter, you can meet the female. Many times it is hard to meet the, often, distant stud dog.

Thanks for any feedback! :D

Patton, Boss, Tiger, Lean Mac, Ford, Walker, Cosmo, Pudgie Mac, Reggie, Rex.... The list is endless,,,,,

Better to ask what stud throws a temperment on a dog that you wouldn't let babysit your kids.....

Yea, I agree that list would probably be quite small, but I thought people might be hesitant to put that kind of info on a public forum...

Thanks for the names though. I'll add Carbon to the list of GOOD temperment dogs from his pups that I've seen. The couple of Fargo pups I've thrown for were also sweethearts..

I met (& watched him run) Boomer (FC AFC FTCH AFTCH TNT's Explosion, UD, OS) at the Golden National & was very impressed with his temperment. Friendly & reliable w/ people & other dogs.

I specifically asked Chylo (Finny's pro) for feedback on temperment & it's all good. Witnessed it this week-airs w/ dogs, bitches & pups & loves 'em all. Not the least bit crate/truck protective w/ dogs or people. Super w/ the neighbor kids.

I'd recommend Boomer as a sire in a heartbeat.

Bente,

I can recommend a Golden stud with a wonderful temperment, that would be Firemark's Push Comes to Shove, owned by Val & Mike Ducross at Ambertrail in Ontario. I have one of his pups x their Allie and she is sweet. Maggie is SO not aggressive with other dogs or people. I have met Push and he is a wonderful boy, just so lovable and so is Allie.

If you're looking for a Lab stud, I can't help you

I know Ford is a certified therapy dog. That has to say something about his temperment. :D

A stud can't be sterile. Have to agree on the temperment though...

We have an 8 month old Rex pup in the house and an 11 month old Ranger pup. They are both very sweet, great with kids. They love to puppy fight with each other but it never gets aggressive or mean spirited. They love human interaction and are good with strangers. I would reccommend either to babysit the kiddos.

I have had or been around many dogs from different breedings, including Abe, Lean Mac, Harley, Tiger, Super Tanker lines, and more. I have seen some very little to any even interdog aggression is circumstances where it would be understandable, ie bird possessiveness toward another dog.
It an individual stud has a bad attitude, I do not care if he was the NFC 3 times I would not breed to him. But I think it is rare in the training techniques used these days for a dog with a bad attitude to get very far.
Always exceptions, but who the heck would want to train sucha a dog anyway, too many other good dogs out there to mess with one bad one.

Top working studs that throw good, friendly temperaments

I rarely post on this forum because I never feel like I have anything of value to add and am fairly new to the forum. However, I do feel strongly about this topic. I have a 9 month old Kweezy/Pow pup. My husband and I had the privilege of meeting both Kweezy and Pow when we picked up our pup. Both were exceptionally pleasant and friendly. In particular, I rather fell in love with Pow. Everytime I turned around, he was leaning on my leg and looking at me like, "Hi! Please pet me!" Both were wonderful animals.

My pup is everything I could hope for in a young field dog. He is highly intelligent, learns quickly, has tons of drive, and is a great marking dog. When he sees a strange dog, he does puff up a bit and bark, but is fine once he gets to meet the dog. He is good with neighborhood kids. In the house, he tries to crawl in my lap when I'm on the couch. You can put him to sleep by rubbing his ears. Other than the usual puppy "over exuberance" he is great with our kids. Next to my husband and kids, he is my best friend. I think he is the perfect dog.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but what can I say? Pow gets my vote.

In my limited experience it is hard to find out the problems certain dogs throw until you have a puppy on the ground. Once you have a puppy and say it does "x" people are more inclined say, oh, so-and-so did that.

Nohere, Raven is a very sweet dog too. Very good around people and kids. High desire, smart, good marker, but a bit on the soft and sensitive side.
