I know about collar clinic, but I like to try to fix stuff on my own.

With that said, I have an older Flyway Special XL (turns on by holding transmitter button down). It is not holding a charge. I am pretty sure that the batteries need replaced. I opened the collar and noticed that there are two wires (one red and one black) that connect the cover of the collar to the circuit board. The black wire is not connected and the red one seems to go under a foam pad that is glued to the inside of the cover.

Does anyone know if the black wire is just part of the antenae or part of the other electronic system? It looks like it should be pretty simple to fix, but I hate ripping the foam out if it is serving a function.

I like to fix stuff on my own too, but i learned my lesson trying to fix an ecollar. In my humble opinion, you'd be better off with getting collar clinic to repair it. That's just me.

I am not completely opposed to sending it to cc, but if it is simply a matter of battery replacement I hate to pay someone 125 to replace a battery.

Do you know if the flat rate covers only labor or will it covers battery replacement too?

I'm not sure, but my guess would be that you'll be paying for the battery as well as the flat rate. I could be wrong though. I've never had a battery replacement done by CC.

I'd suggest calling TT during regular business hours and talking to someone. They have been pretty helpful to me when I've had "user replaceable" issues.

Or you may be able to do the same thing with collar clinic.

TT charges I think $120 to do a repair....well worth it and their MO in my experience is if they can't fix it they replace it, not a bad deal in my opinion.

I have used cc for all the e-collar work we needed fixed for years. My dad ran **** hounds and they fixed them just like new.
The flat fee is for it all. I have 2 tt e-collars and one is going in to cc right away.

just got batteries in from CC. I spoke with them and they were able to walk me through the issue. Looks like it will work now...started collar conditioning tonight. It's fun being back at it again.
