There are a few Field Trials, one in Duluth , Virgina MN and the Soo Canada side. The National Amat will be held just South of the Mac Bridge in June . The other Wisc. events held around Mondovi, Wisc. Slim pickins. Where are you located in the UP? It's a big area!

Since you live in Houghton I would look in MN or WI for HT or FT clubs. There is a FT in Onaway, MI the first of October, this is where the 2012 National Amateur is being held in June. Bill Tidd lives in Christmas, MI and runs FT in WI, MN, and the lower half of MI, here is a link to Bill on RTF give Bill a PM http://www.retrievertraining.net/forums/member.php?u=42896

What sort of competition are you looking for? We will be vacationing in Gay MI for a week late July. Maybe we could get together for a little training. We have a 10 month old and a 10 week old that we will have with us. Have done Master Hunt and mostly FT. PM me if you are interested.

I'm in Houghton
I got my degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Tech in Houghton.

Thinking about it, I'm a little homesick now.

As others have asked, what games interest you?

I'm not sure what I want to get into. This is my 2nd dog but the first I want to train. I want to train her for upland birds for sure but I want to check out some events to maybe do something like that in the future

There is a Professor at MichiganTech that runs Hunt Tests. He has come down to the Southern Wisconsin circuit a few times. I will get his name and PM you. My wife and I are displaced Yoopers and have a Cabin between Crystal Falls and Amasa. We have trained at the Baraga Plains . Manitowoc HT and FT also have events. Bill Tidd's home Club is the Soo you might want to contact him as Greg already suggested. At one time we considered moving back to "God's Country" but you hit the nail on the head it is a long way from anything including medical care and field trials!
We get to Houghton/Hancock occasionaly, my wife's niece will graduate from Mich Tech this Spring. PM me for any addtional info.

2 very good friends of mine, Dave Joelson & Mark Maroste played hockey @ Tech. Hell, you need to come to Duluth and the Virginia FT's in the summer. Those trials are not to far from you.

You might hook up with Dave Davis of Chieftain Kennels in Ironwood. Dave's a pro trainer and a great guy.

A couple years ago some fellows from the Soo/St. Ignace were going to start a hunt test club but I haven't heard from them lately. Actually I thought the UP would be more of a retriever hot bed. If you are interested in trying Duluth out I can put you in touch with their members.
