Yes, that can happen. Nothing to worry about unless it continues. You could always call your vet, and probably should to alert them your girl is in whelp.

Thank you, Jeannie. Since I posted the question my female has birthed 9 beautiful puppies! She started with the first one at 1:45 this afternoon and finished at 6:45! She was spitting them out like candy! Mom and pups are doing great.

Wow, you are lucky that she whelped during the day. Mine are always all nighters. :)

Congrats a bitch of mine had 11 pups 4 days ago. They are such time wasters, I could stare at them for hours!! And lets face it, they don't do much except grunt, sleep and drink.
