What type of duck calls do you folks normally use for your actual in the blind/on the bank calling. Why?

I use the Duck Commander Classic as well as one I made from birch that sounds pretty much just like the DC200.

Quack Quack regards,

I am almost embarrassed to say how many duck calls I own. About that time of year, everytime I am in a store I seem to walk out with one. Most of the ones I have are cheaper, but I have gotten some good ones for presents. For an under $30 call I like the Primos Original Wench. I like the tuning hole so you can sound like more than one duck. My favorite call I own is a RNT Original in Aferican Blackwood. You can really tell where the extra $80 went. It sounds really good, not too raspy, but not too clear either. Honestly I have other calls that I think sound better, but the ducks respond best to this one, so it is the one I blow most of the time. If you are asking because you are wanting a new call, I would suggest spending the money on a good one, and putting in the practice with it and you will be glad you did.

favorite call I've used in the last several years (and yes, I also have a fetish) is a Zink Power Hen Acrylic. Its the only one I've used consistently for more than 2 seasons. After that, I like Southern game calls by Greg Hood, the Nasty series in particular, it's a short barreled really throaty call designed for timber hunting.

Off the shelf calls, the Haydels are probably the best ones off the shelf out there, I'd follow that up with the primos wench.

Greg makes a nice call and is a nice guy to boot. I have one of the old little joels(about 9 years old) and I am ordering one of the new double reeds next week, the noreaster. I like the joel but think it is a bit loud for some of the swamp hunting that we do.

I like my RNT short barrel in the marsh, followed by a Sean Mann Big Water for more open stuff.

I also like the Power Wench for just a change of pace.

Acrylic single reed is my personal favorite. Most all of the top end calls are very good. Find one that you like the look and feel of. A top end call can be tuned any way you want it to sound. Personally I like RNT

I have a Carlson, that I paid $20 for, this is my all time favorite. I also have a Primos Yo Sista, that is good for open water. It is very loud. The Carlson is good anywhere and is very easy to blow.

I'm nearly always hunting wide open marsh or rice country, and haven't found anything that matches that and my, shall we say, "aggressive" calling style as well as RNT's MVP. Great range of both types, super responsive and just plain fun to run. That, and the ducks like it.

But when wary mallards or mottleds hang up and need grabbed by the throat and drug to the guns, I'm apt to reach for an ultra edgy RNT Daisy Cutter (acrylic for all of that edge I can get). We're talkin' the Janis Joplin of Susies.

And on still mornings and in bad-to-echo holes, I may want RNT's "new" Old Style in hand, so its small exhaust bore can save me from myself by keeping me from inadvertently blowing the doors off birds that surprise me out of the presence of mind to throttle an inherently louder call down.
