After hunting without a dog for 2 years now, I'm thinking of getting another pup. My first dog was amazing, (easy to train, wonderful companion, house dog, etc.) but died at the young age of 4. My second dog was less than stellar. Anything that could go wrong in training would, and he just wasn't what I had hoped for. He was hyper all the time and at times was just dumber than a box of rocks! (That's what I get for buying a choco dog, huh? :D ) Which brings me to now.

I am not looking for a dog to trial or hunt test, but I still would would like to have a dog that could perform to a MH level in the duck blind. With 3 young boys, it will need to be a good citizen around the house too. I guess I'm concerned if I go after a pedigree stacked full of FC and AFC's, it will not be a good house dog and hyper. I know you can look at the parents disposition, but I'm sure most breeders are just gonna tell you what you want to hear. On the other hand I want a strong pedigree to ensure the dog has a ton of desire and drive to retrieve. Are there certain Sires I should look for or avoid? What else would you look for in a breeding to ensure you got what you were looking for if you were me? Thanks.

You are right, you will hear a lot of marketing hype but I don't like hyper dogs either. I can tell you this-look for a breeding from FC Candlewoods Meet Joe Black (Joe) or FC/AFC Candlewoods Rulin the Roost. (Rooster) and a good, solid, good natured bitch. They are brothers from LeanMac X Bebe, Lottie's full sister. I have been very happy with the pups I produced from them and have kept. I adore my dog. Wonderful family dogs, good natured, happy, gentle, good in the house, and natural hunters. Other RTFers have them too. The cross with Abe bitches works well. I sold my last one yesterday and that's her last litter. I have nothing to sell but contact trog on here for litters. The guy in my avatar is from Rooster and they aren't bad looking.

All my breeding females are Certified Canine Good Citizens, I have a breeding on the ground now that are 2 weeks old
The female is a CGC MH and has a off switch, in the house she is calm, but always has something in her mouth (toy), but when its time to ''work'' she is ALWAYS ready.
She has non stop retrieving desire, during whelping we were out in the yard retrieving fun bumpers between pups
The sire is a FC AFC and is a house dog, but in the field watch out, that's why I choice him.

BTW..That's what I look for in breeding's! I don't like the hyper crazies either.
