Hello all. I have a 1 y/o ylf. She has tons of drive and desire, but she doesn't have much honor. I have been working on her honoring, but she continually whines when other dogs are going for there marks. I have made her watch other dogs work while at heel and have tried everything from grabbing her snout and saying hush to accompanying collar stimulation with hush. None of it has worked so far. I don't let her retrieve every time and I have been making her watch me work my older dogs on lining drills off lead. She does ok with that, but she thinks every mark is hers, thus the whining. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Placing her in a kennel on line to watch ALL the falls, and using your "sit-stick" to whack the kennel, and shout "quiet" every time she whines, was the old fashioned way of halting that fault. As time progresses, just a hollar "QUIET", will get her to cringe, and shut up.

All this takes some time, and works better when the dog has been completely FF, so it understands who is Alpha, and who has the right to reprimand it.

It will be non-ending for some time, but if it isn't halted at an early stage, it will ALWAYS get worse, to where it will begin howling for attention. Then you will have no choice but to strap on a bark collar. Those seldom work for a whining problem, however.

Good Luck,

UB
