In the driveway this morning at 0 dark hundred tossing goose decoys into the truck. I notice the neighbor also in the driveway and seeing as they don't hunt I am curious. "Where are you off to?", I ask. "We are going to get in line at Wal-Mart, what are you doing?". "I am going to lay on the ground in a freshly plowed corn field amongst a group of decoys with a muddy dog next to me on a crisp clear 26 degree morning and wait for the sun to rise." You are crazy" they exclaim as they drive off......... to shop  .

Actually, if you look at the roots of it all you were both up getting ready to go "hunting" each in your own way. And we are all crazy in one way or the other.

What's crazier???? -- getting up before 5 a.m. to "line up" for Rolling Stones tickets and waiting in same line for up to 2 days just to maintain your place in front of the line ???? -- OR getting up before 5 a.m. to get to a puppy stake to run your 6 month black Lab in his first trial (OR getting up before 5 a.m. to go to field trial in a higher stake -- Derby, Qualifying, or any All Age stakes -- and then going out in the first series) ???? --all this after travelling up to 3 hours one way from home and then heading right back after trial -- if it was just a picnic trial would that be even more crazy ????

Bob,
I agree that there can be a very fine line between a hobby and insanity -- to any one who has gone to the"dogs" will usually find that their non-dog friends think that they have "lost" it (although hopefully such friends are too polite to say anything to the "dog"person directly, usually reserving such remarks to conversations held behind the "dog" person's back) -- personally I'd rather hang out with other "dog" people who by and large have replaced some of my previous "friends"

Next question should be.... who was better armed?? Some of the past Black Friday shopping sprees have been a test of ones survival savy.
I know i'd feel a lot safer out in the blind.

I got my first chessie to have a duckin dog. Sometime between when she got her MH and became QAA the hook got set. I started off with a handfull of bumpers, a whistle and a leash&choke chain. Now my closet is full of white coats & shirts on one side and camo on the other. My van has 4 custom creates in it a couple of bumper boys and tons of other equipment. I rarely take time off from training to hunt, and try to schedule everything around the f/ts and h/ts I want to run. I guess its a good thing I am retired, my old boss would go round the bend signing off on all the vacation and holidays I would be requesting to allow me to run the circuit. If retrieveritis is a disease, I don't want the cure.

I'm with Bob G. -- if retrieveritis is a disease I don't want the cure either -- thank God I'm not alone in my "suffering" since it seems to be contagious -- might be "crazy" but I'm having lots of fun

I love it.
I had to venure out towards the shopping mall because I had to ship a dog home this a.m.
I stopped at a Wal-Mart to get batteries for the radios,bleach,...
Then I saw............ This is no lie.....
I saw 2 women on the verge of an all out fight over some Elmo toy while their children sat in the carts????
I have driven in the wee hours of the a.m. for a trial to go out in the first series of an all-age after they had a poison bird pheasant flyer land blind. She did a great job on the blind then couldn't come up with the darn hen pheasant

Gooser, did you buy that scarf to go with your sequin belt?
No Actually it came in a matched set with the flannel plaid shirt. Color contrasts a little, but I can live with it!

They call it Cranberry Blossom!
