Hey all -

Went to a very fun club trial Saturday ... my first HRC experience. 1st - the brags ... My 6 month old took a JAM in started and a 1st place in Sr. puppy. my 3 month old took a 2nd place in Jr. Puppy and a client's puppy I help train took a 3rd in Jr. puppy - what a blast!

Anyway - I heard SO MANY great "tails" about why people call their dogs what they do - pedigree names are too much fun and call names usually have more meaning than we hear on the surface.

My 6 month old is an extremely special girl ... I had been seeking out and researching pedigrees a yellow female for a few years after finding out after many headaches that my male could not be successfully bred. You know the game - spent lots of $ and time w/him - love him to pieces, and although he only got as far as a SH pass - he is the most special dog to me and looks great on paper. I always wanted a pup out of him and nearly broke the bank & my heart trying.

.... I purchased a yellow female from Mississippi. Drove 14 hours to get her ... and 3 months later started having problems with her physical developement. The breeders were great about it but unfortunately there was no pup for an exchange and I ended up keeping her for 6 months, training her, and selling her as a pet.

NEXT ... I have a deposit down on a litter in TX ... the dam took the pregnancy to near completion and then aborted the litter. No pup survived.

Then - the search went on ... I found a nice YF pup which was $500.00 more than I wanted to spend and with shipping forget it... I continued to look. 2 weeks later her breeder calls me and explained that he saw my web site and appreciated why I wanted the pup. He had been debating on which of the final two yf's to keep and now that he had his pick he would be willing to sell me the remaining (2nd POL) YF for my price!

Her sire is FC AFC Hunting Hills Coriander Q'd for 06 & 07 Nationals so .... In keeping with his seasoning theme and having waited what seams like a lifetime for her I named her
Stumptown's Worth The Thyme ... Call Name SPICE :D

I used to live next the the Washita River which was usually muddy, so all of my dogs start with "Muddy River" and then the rest.

Nice site. I'm sending you a PM.

Congrats on your dogs successes this weekend. It was nice to met you and I'm glad you enjoyed the day. Seemed to be a slow moving day with all the running around and setting up, but what else would you rather do on a rainy June day in SC than having some time cutting up w/ the dogs and the people who love'em.

P.S. check out SCDUCKS.com for results posted.

(he isn't fat or lazy but an excellent hunter and quiely sits in the blind) Caroway is from the kennel we got him from.

Last dog, who we lost very young to cancer was DUey (DU for ducks Unlimited), some kind person on the forum recommended that the next pup be named in honor of him, but instead of DUey 2 we go with TUey, and it stuck...

Plumcreeks (breeder's kennel) Deuces (another nod to the 'second') Wild (he's more than just a little intense) TUey...

"Cruisin' With Indiana Jones" We wanted to acknowledge his sire, RKS's Smooth Sailing, he came from Indiana, and the day he arrived home he proved himself a fearless adventurer and daredevil, (he did a "big air" water entry off of a 2 foot bluff into the Beaufort river, 7 weeks old!). And as fate would have it, he has a huge aversion to snakes, (thank god). Call name Indy. When most people meet him they assume it has to do with the Indy 500 because he's so fast

My new pup was named by my soon to be 3 year old little boy. His favorite toy is Thomas the Train, if any of you have small children then you know who Thomas is. He started calling the pup Thomas from the day he was born, so I said cool that is his name.

I am still tossing his registered name around, maybe y'all can help. I am thinking:

The Little Blue Train
The Blue Train
The Friendly Blue Train

What do y'all think.

I'm pretty sure I'm taking this thread off topic...but please explain an HRC test that gives a JAM...as well as other "placings"..especially for PUPPY???

Never even heard of JUNIOR puppy. What level is that?

It was a club trial. Various RC's have these from time to time for fun and training opportunity. You can enter to "compete" and actually be judged for 1 - 4 and JAMs, or elect to enter to "train" where since you are not in competition you can pick and choose what elements of the test you want to run your dog in. Its all very low key and an absolute blast. You learn from lots of experienced people who are not too stressed out running test that they dont have time to talk to you. The field runs the gamut from Pros working new dogs on their truck, to little bitty kids (4 year olds even) running baby pups!

Most of our dogs carry the prefix of "Gator Point" or "Gator Pt." for the name of our kennel. So named for the point on the Lake Dannelly reservoir at Camden, AL where an eleven foot one inch gator had a .243 cerebral hemorrhage while watching our first Lab work off our floating dock one day. Looking for lunch! Bad choice.

G.P. R-O-C 'N' Moon Pie-- The crew I used to work in the hay field would have lunch- a RC Cola (pronounced ARO C) and a Moon Pie, a chocolate wafer sandwich with a marsh mellow filling. Running name Pie. Dam of FC-AFC Gator Pts. Sweet Potato Pie owned by Dr.Mark Huffman.

G.P. Mr. T (after the A Team on TV) call name B.A. (Bad Azz) family inside joke)

Gator Points' Georgia Brown, "Sweetie" (tears in my eyes as I type) first dog I trained by myself, loved me, made me look like a handler and was totally loved by me. Only dog I ever ran in a Grand and I still miss her.

Gator Points' Rouxlette, "Vanna" For Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune. She is a dog out of GRHRCH Dakota's Cajun Roux that I have high hopes for.

There are 10 down at the kennel that have unique names bearing on either their heritage or for characteristics that showed up at a very early age (She Ain't No Lady, "Lady") a high maintenance pacer that barks.

I have a problem remembering what some of their registered names are, just their call names    Bill

My first "Royal" bred lab was sired by FC/AFC Texas WB Cocky Two Stepper, so I stuck with dance themes.
HRCH-Tanks Alot For the Dance-MH ("Dancy")
Gettin' Jiggy Widdit-SH ("Jiggy")
High Waters Watusi Lucy ("LuLu")
Black Bottom Blue (Blue)

I hope to be getting a female in the fall sired by Cosmo out of a MH Viking bitch.
and she will have the "Lindy Hop" in her name. My buddies make fun of my theme. Say it's a little "girlie".
