Wireless fence

My inlaws are considering a wireless fence as their HOA only allows certain types of fencing that run in the $5-6k+ range. Does anyone have experience with the wireless fences (the ones where nothing is buried in the ground)? What I'm wondering is will these types of fences shock the dog until they reenter the yard or is it a small shock area like with a buried invisible fence?

There is a range even with the wireless units. The problem with either wireless or underground is this: If you have a dog with high prey drive, they may just grit their teeth and run through the stimulation to chase that squirrel, rabbit, etc. And once they are outside the zone, they get shocked when they try to return to the yard. Once they're out, they get corrected for trying to come home.
