Here in Canada you are allowed 5 wins in qualifying before you are given the "Golden Boot". Additionally, same as US, a Amature placement or an open Jam and you are done in Qual.
With 7 placements so fare this year, My dog is in second place for the simi-meaningless title of "top qualifying dog in Canada". I am 5 points back with only one win, the top dog has 4 wins. My dog just turned 3.
I think we can finish some opens, maybe even place on a lucky day.

I suppose some people might think so. Would you call a committee meeting on someone you thought gave a dumb handle or called a dog in when he shouldn't? Kinda hard to prove anything unless he broadcast it from the loud speaker. Would a normal Joe out watching with his family be offended by his picking his dog up or handling when the dog was doing fine? Probably not.Wouldn't it be considered unsportsman like to pick up and intentionaly throw the trial?
Also, as the handler how would you know for sure what the other dogs had done. I might not be squeaky clean but I'm going for the best placement I can get and that means I play it as smart as I can. When it came to crunch time in the fourth series, I bet he wouldn't screw up the dog unless he was SURE he was going for a jam. You never know a 3rd or a 4th could be there and not that pretty green ribbon.
If you knew you were green, I'm not sure how picking up your dog would "throw the trial". It is not uncommon to see pick-ups in the first test as well as the last, especially if you have seen a number of good jobs before you. Better that, then letting your dog do something counter-productive to your training.
