I read through some old posts about Bubba. Just curious, who saw him run? Thoughts? Also, who’s seen his pups run? Thoughts? (Feel free to message me if you don’t want to share your thoughts publicly.)
Thanks!

His son Kid was a phenomenal dog. Almost 150 points, 8 series at a National at 12 years old. Has produced very well as well.

Seriously? 😳
Had a NFC Drake puppy that inherited Grandpa's (Bubba's) penchant for up and over the big bales to a mark. Moreover, she did it coming up out of water and running uphill after a couple hundred yard swim. As this was my first Lab, I was thrilled to the gills just to spectate at her athleticism.

Our first serious lab was a puppy from Bubba bought from River Bend Kennel in Wisconsin. It was big money for us at the time at $600.
Best dog investment ever for us. Our pups name was High Mileage Hilltops Hustle. Hustle had early training with a pro but the dog was like training 6 dogs as he took so much time. The pro sent him home after a few months. Hustle was Marty’s dog and I d say” heart dog” as his photo hangs in a prominent spot in our home. Hustle earned a MNH 6 and an NMH 5 along with more than 100 master passes. Marty was so proud of that dog. He was amateur trained by Marty and would literally do anything she asked. Hustle had good health and a big heart. He was never bred ! Hustle lived in the house and was as gentle and mild as one could ask for. Easy on the truck but stand back when the holding blinds went up.

Thanks for providing a really nicemrmory

Bubba sired the all time high point yellow female FC-AFC Hilltops High Society owned, trained, and handled by my good friend Sylvia McClure. Gracie was one of the best bitches I had the pleasure of competing against.

Anyone have any insight as to why he “only had” 32 AA points? I know they’re not easy to come by.
Retriever Results credits him with 43. I may be way off here, but I seem to recall someone saying that an injury significantly shortened his competing career.

Bubba broke a leg at the Mid Illinois trial one year. I don't think he ever fully recovered.

I trained with John some especially when Bubba was young. I think some of his success was that John and Bubba were a match for each other.

Bubba produced some great offspring, but he wasn't a consistent sire. There were even different types of pups in a litter out of my Super Tanker daughter. (I bred litters out of 3 different bitches.)

He was an average size male in the 70 lb neighborhood

He was average but produced larger sometimes and a variety of talent. Of course he was bred to a variety of females, many who weren’t run for titles, like many talented stud dogs.
