Is the dog at fault here, I think not.
How can somebody be so stupid to try and kiss a strange dog.
I saw the video and while stupidity may not be the correct term she was certainly foolhardy and definitely at fault and such was stated by an animal behaviorist who was interviewed by NBC. She crossed the line when she got into his space and he reacted, I'm sure he did damage to her face but the dog's reaction was not a vicious one just a defensive one.

Generally when people are bitten in the face their face was someplace it should not have been.

She down down on his level and smiled (dog's view - bared her teeth)... of course he was going to bite. It was more of a "back off" rather than an attack. No way that guy could have contained him if he had wanted to continue. Earlier I watched a video that has now been removed and I saw clearly that the dog warned her several time to back off, but she just kept coming....yes, she was stupid.

But the dog and owner are getting blamed. Owner was cited for failure to control under their leash laws even though he was holding the dog by his collar and for not having current vaccinations. He was chasing a coyote when he fell through the ice, sure hope he hasn't been exposed to rabies.

I saw a story on that breed a few months ago...the dog protected two little children from being attacked by a mountain lion and lived.

This story really bothers me. The dog was under a tremendous amount of stress. First from the dousing, then the rescue, then the lights, noise and activity of the studio and on top of that, just being back with his owner and placed right between owner and a stranger baring teeth in his face. It would almost be more surprising if something had not happened. I can't believe the reporters can even put a "vicious" spin on it. :(:(:(

The dog appears to be a fear bitter. He tried to escape at the first part of the interview, but was held and brought back to the owners feet.
When she got into his space it was either fight of flight, and he had already tried flight.

Just saw it on our local news. I can't believe the owner was sited for no leash. I will never understand how ignorant people can be around a dog they don't know.

What amazes me is how many people had the idea of this dog being on the set, the reporter petting the dog, and no one once thought, hmmm is this dog vaccinated, and did anyone bother to research what dogo argentino is? The dog did not bite his rescuers, but anyone who knows dog body language could see this dog was not pleased with her in his face or the petting, was she stupid, probably harsh words for most who don't know dogs like most on here....but it certainly wasn't her brightest moment, and for that this dog will most likely be euthanized.

That read wrong. What I meant was how ignorant they can be when they are around a dog they don't know.:D

I would think the dog will be fine as long as he doesn't show signs of being sick. The lady was stupid though!

Really love the way they used the term vicious twice in the article and also attack and lunged. When one considers what that breed was originally bred for for and what it was capable of, that was pretty much a little love nip from what I could tell.

I saw a video of a reporter doing the same thing with a police dog with the officer holding him and the dog reacted the same way this one did.

Absolutely,,,

Why did the handler let her get so close to their dogs face? Anyone with an ounce of dog sense would have nicely shown her the proper protocol when approaching a strange dog since she obviously didn't have a clue.

A little public service announcement from your friendly dog trainers/handlers of America.

The dope just sat there and let her get her face bit.

The same owner didn't have his dogo argentino vaccinated for rabies and let him run loose. I taught training for many years and we dealt with alot of aggressive dogs, and that breed was one we got to see fairly often for how few there are, just not the breed for an average person, that being said if that dog wanted to it would have mauled her,the power of those dogs is amazing..he was telling her the only way he knew how to get outta his face.

Now that I've read the article I can understand why the owner was such a dumba$$ Geeze!!!

I had watched the video of the interview and that was it.

Still the anchor and dog get a pass on this one. The owner should be shot for letting his dog roam, having it not vaccinated and for not having a clue about doggy behavior.

Whoever thought this was a cute reuniting story???

I had a similar experience with a young woman who insisted on getting in my labs face I ask her three times to back off and she kept coming until he caught her just on the lip, one tooth. Won't tell you how much it cost my insurance, dog never wins, but now I am down right rude to people who refuse to listen.

This news station is in my city. The only dumb a## is the general manager of the station. Why would you let a dog that just fell through the ice a day ago, come into your building and let an anchor do a warm fuzzy feeling story about a dog that knowone has a clue about COME ON MAN!!!!!
