Thank God we have left those big lizards far behind! Now all we have to worry about are those Rio Grande Crocodiles;)

How old would a gator have to be to get to that size...and even though it was on private property its kinda hard for a gator that size to go unnoticed

I would guessimate around 30 years old, after that they begin losing some body mass. Looks like he was well fed on nutria and other swamp delights.

I hope I NEVER see a gator that huge in person!!

The ones that get that big are the ones that stay out of the vision of people. They're pretty good about staying hidden. I worked at the USC Beaufort Campus, there was a big one that occupied one of their ponds. I never saw her, but you could see her babies. The maintenance guy said she was prob 12 feet and he'd seen one larger. If they get crowded, or a larger one "claims" a territory, they will move.

The gator that Gator Point Kennel was named after was an Alabama production. We built our dream home on a point of land on Lake Danelly on the Alabama River. He was watching us work our first Lab, "Corky" from our floating dock when he was discovered. He had a .243 cerebral hemerage, and when pulled up the boat ramp measured eleven feet one inch. "Corky" went on to become the foundation bitch of our kennel.

Cleo used to go swimming off of the floating dock, by herself, when ever she wanted to. After that incidence she never went swimming in that location again! We saw several gators watching the house later on, but non were that large. That one could have put us out of business before we even started. Sure glad he was not in a big hurry that day, we sure would have missed out of a lot of fun over the last 30 years, Bill

At Lake Alice on the campus of the University of Florida they use to try to keep the gators under six feet, when I was in grad school they had one over 10 feet. It took them a while to catch her.

I use to hunt around Orange Lake, had a friend took me out on his air boat once. He had a very large gator hanging around his dock, it was over 10 feet. Not too long after I moved away they caught the heaviest record gator out of Orange Lake, over 1,000 lbs!

I used to hunt Orange Lake and Rodman. You're right. There are some big gators in there. Would never put a dog in those lakes and had to pick up your ducks fast or a gator might beat you to it.
