This situation sickens me... not about the officers, about the administration. Do you have a link I could post to facebook?

Here is a counterpoint to this situation:

This dog is NOT of retirement age. This dog is in his prime, capable of many more days of law enforcement on the street.

The "retirement" is the cop, not the dog. When a dog is taken out of commission, in his prime, he has a value. Other law enforcement agencies would love to have the dog. Other cops would love to have the dog. The agency has a public responsibility to account for some value to the taxpayers.

Let's face it. $2k for a started retriever is a reasonable value. If you want to help the officer and dog remain together, please pitch in.

Please, please, please keep the politics out of it. RTF does not need to get folks from outside the area caught up in politics. RTF can and should help a dog person and family be with the dog they love.

Thanks,
Chris

In keeping with your thoughts the typical K-9 program is a specialty budget item squeezed from a remaining overall annual operating budget of 15% or so. 2K for this one is a deal.

No argument there. (Well, it depends on the particular retriever, but I get the analogy.) Check sent 2 days ago.

It's not politics for me - just a guy getting HIS dog, independent of who bought it in the first place. I hope we raise the $$. And thanks Gooser.

Still living by My Father's Motto of "Doing what is right - even when no one is looking"... I know my father - if still living and a retired Police Officer himself and us having owned a police German Shepard - he'd contribute without saying anything...I'm hoping that is the case here...that all the "views" on this post are people reading it and deciding that $5.00 sent in an envelope is better then buying a burger that day at McD's... hope so.

Folks,

If you opt to send a donation via PayPal, please remember to mark it as sending money to family or friends. If you mark it as payment for goods/services, PayPal takes out a percentage.

Just a few more days to make donations so that we can get the money to the FOP in time for the deadline. If you are thinking about making a donation via PayPal, please do it soon. It takes 3 days for PayPal to transfer the money into my account. If you are sending a check, please get it into the mail soon!

Thanks to everyone that has been helping out!

I just read this for the first time tonight. Bump to the top!

I have received $436.64 via PayPal. I know that some folks have sent in their personal checks directly to the FOP. Right now, the bidding for Gooser's handcrafted Range Box is at $750.00

I was told that a couple of local folks have tried to raise some money and have about $400.00.

I spoke with someone associated with the FOP and was told that, if more than $2,000.00 is raised, any monies over that will be used to purchase dog food for the local animal shelter.

Vicky, I talked to my dad today and I know the FOP has received atleast $500 from locals here on the shore (Possibly more). With goosers box at $750 and the $436.64 you have received we should be getting close. I will give Zach a call tomorrow and try to get an exact number of where we are. -Mike
