I have treated my ponds for algae and would like to keep them clear as much as possible. Based on information I have learned from my searches here on RTF, I have considered using pond dye (prevents the sun from hitting the pond surface in shallow waters, preventing algae growth). My question is will the pond dye affect the color of the dog's coat.....I have a couple of really light Labs. If it does not affect the dogs coat....which color is most recommended.....blue or black?

Thanks in advance,

Wally

You'd better not let the "silver" lab folks find out about this - they might come slash your tires for trying to put them out of business. Silver labs are one thing, but could you imagine "clear blue" colored dogs??!!

Yes pet safe. We treated our ponds and a Yellow jumped in right after and wala smurf lab. Just wait a day or two and no problems. Stuff really work for the algea too.

I use the blue dye (never seen it in black) and it works very well to control the weeds. I pour it in the end where the springs/stream feed the ponds and the dogs have gone swimming in it the same day. Never had any problems with the dye coloring them, and I have some light colored CBRs. One year some of the bass had a bluish tinge to them though.

Blue + yellow = GREEN. Awesome! Would be a great color for the early teal season.

Thanks to all for the info.....now I feel safe to proceed with the blue dye.

By the way, does anyone know if a Tie Dye Lab is more valuable than a Silver Labradoodle?

:)

Angie, Julie is right about getting the die on you and it never comes out of your clothes. I've died my ponds for years. The only time I've had problems I had was if I had a light colored lab or chessie jump in right after I treated the pond and it hadn't had time to dilute they would get a bit of a blue hue to them but it wore off pretty quickly.
