The last couple of days my dog has been sneezing a lot lately. She's not coughing or anything else. At first I thought it may be allergies but I have no idea what she would be allergic to. I did recently switch back foods from Purina Dog Chow to Purina Pro Plan Focus 26/12 but I would not think that the food would be the issue since this is what she ate for the first 7-9 months I had her. She has been on Dog Chow for the last 6 months or so and just switched back since I can afford the Pro Plan again. This got me thinking that she may have a respiratory infection of some kind after doing some research on the web. We do frequent a public training area almost daily but the only dog she has come in contact with in last week before she started sneezing is my friends puppy who has not been sneezing or had any symptoms of anything else. She has been a little lethargic the last few days as if she is tired but once we get out to train she still has her drive and everything still. The sneezing started about 3 days ago. I am going to take her to the vet this week if she does not get better. Anybody have any ideas what this may be? respiratory infection? Allergies? I'm kind of in the dark since this is my first dog. She never had any allergies last year during the spring and its been raining a lot lately here so there hasn't been much pollen in the air.

You could try benadryl and if it reduces or eliminates the sneezing, there is an allergen bothering her.

If that doesn't make a difference, time to go to the veterinarian. Only problem is if your doc doesn't have a scope (most general practice docs don't) you will have to go to a specialty clinic to have her nose scoped.

I have tried benadryl. Been giving it to her the last 2 days. seems to reduce the sneezing but no eliminate them. I plan on taking her to the vet tomorrow if I can

Where we are foxtails are a serious problem. Enough that we've had to look for alternative training areas. It's important that you find out whether or not there is a grass awn in her nose. Complications can be serious.

She doesnt seem to be in any discomfort. I think a majority of the lethargic behavior was from the benadyrl. When I got home yesterday she was acting fine but still sneezing some. After speaking with some guys that I train with, they said all their dogs have been sneezing like that also. My guess is that something just started releasing pollen and that's what has had all the dogs sneezing. Regardless, if the sneezing hasn't stopped in the next couple of day, I will take her and have it checked out. She has been breathing through her nose regularly at night and during the day so I could not see something being lodged in it. I did look as far down her nostrils as I could with a light and did not see anything (not saying there's not something back farther). We trained yesterday and she had her drive still and I didnt see her sneezing. Its mainly when she first wakes up in the morning and when she gets excited( like when I get home and were about to go train), but during training shes fine.

With everything in bloom right now, our dogs have been sneezing more often. I always have to remind myself they explore everything with that nose.
