Where is the best place to get CNM test? Noticed DDC, vetdnacenter.com has a special going for multiple dogs/tests. Was thinking of doing coat color as well. Thoughts?

Alfort .... The university that developed the test!

Excellent! That's what I was looking for. Wasn't sure what companies were widely accepted as legit.

thanks

Paw Print Genetics is another great and affordable option. They'll get blasted on here since they "didn't invent the test"... Bc lord for it a bunch of conservative gundog folk (like myself) actually encourage some free market economy!

Jen,

Are you testing single dogs or a litter of pups? If you are testing a litter be sure to contact Marilyn Fender, as they will put a priority on the testing so that as a breeder you can get results back quickly before the pups head to their new homes. As well, the testing price of a litter is per pup until you reach 6 pups. If you are testing more than 6 pups in a litter, it is that maximum 6 pup pricing whether you are testing 6 or 12 pups.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I'm also looking for an alternative to Alfort to test.

Their turnaround time for us has been terrible. If anyone has any experience using vetgen for their CNM test, could you please PM me and let me know how their turnaround and customer service was?

I have had no trouble with Alfort--emaili results in less than two weeks.

Since I have a CNM carrier, I won't consider a stud dog cleared with one of the other laboratories. I need to be as sure as possible that the results are accurate. Too many inaccurate results reported from the other labs early on.

I've always gotten results from Alfort in 2 weeks or so. I've heard some dandy stories about one of the others mentioned, there were several threads on here a while back. They may have a new name now but the same company is still behind them.

I sent a sample to Alfort on 5/5/14, received notification it arrived on 5/12/14, and received results today 5/16/14. I did not do the rushed sample either, just a regular sample.

Because I want the dog's identity verified, I have my doc scan the microchip and confirm the dog matches the form. I then collect the sample in front of him and then ship it off. I usually do tests like this when I am in his office for another reason and then there is no charge for verifying the dog's identity.

I was amazed that I actually had to mail stuff to France the first time I ever did testing in 2012 and was a bit concerned too. Got test kits for CNM, EIC and PRA each from their different original sources. Took all 3 kits to Vet for her to validate dog's ID. We swabbed and filled out forms together. Sent all off same day and got results all back very quickly. Was initially concerned about the out of country thing too, but with email results it was fast. I got a conformation email on 5/11 that CNM test kit was received, never got that step from other two. Got Optigen PRA results 5/15, CNM results 6/1, and EIC results 6/6. I did not pay to rush any kits to labs or for any results. Hope that info helps. I didn't document what day I mailed everything off, I could go back and look up date of Vet appointment if you really need it, but this gives you comparable times.
